FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why pay when free tools exist?
A free calculator may be enough for a quick answer. SumWise brings original inputs, results and supported graphs together in a saved Windows workspace. These capabilities are not unique individually. Use the trial with a calculation you actually repeat, and decide whether this combination is worth paying for.
Try free for 7 days on Microsoft Store. US$24.99 one-time to continue. Local price and availability may vary. Check the supported scope before choosing.
New in SumWise 3.1
Four in-app interface languages, independently selected Ask language and six bounded exact Desktop operations. Read examples, limits and the workspace 6 Save As guidance.
Interface changes apply next launch. Keep old workspace originals; new domain-qualified files cannot be opened by older baseline readers.
Does Ask understand any word problem?
No. Ask covers fourteen documented sub-intents in English, Spanish, French and German, including travel arithmetic, percentages, conversions, symbolic commands, linear equations and bounded 2D plots. Extra model assumptions and ambiguous inputs need correction. Calculations and question interpretation run locally, without a language model.
What does a 3D workspace save?
One accepted surface and camera, including stored samples. Open does not recalculate it. Question cards and pending inspector fields are not saved; 3D workspaces are not promised compatible with 2.6.
Explore the 3.1 workflow
Ask a supported math question, review/edit its interpretation, Insert calculation, then press Enter in the calculator. For 3D, open SumWise → Plot 3D surface… and explicitly Plot. The interface and bounded Ask support English, Spanish, French and German. Interface changes apply next launch; Ask language has its own selector.

Which quantity workflows were introduced in 2.6?
Supported mechanical/electrical quantities, reviewed guided formulas, two-to-four scenario comparisons, generated Values/CSV, saved supported graph state and selected offline HTML reports. Read the 2.6 scope. These workflows remain available in 3.1.
Does saving preserve every open panel?
Supported 2D calculation/graph state includes visibility, viewport and an approximate pin. Generated Values, report options and uninserted guided fields remain temporary. Saved sources are snapshots, not live dependencies.
Is a report an editable workspace?
No. A .sumwise file preserves supported editable work. PNG is an image, CSV contains generated rows, and an HTML Analysis Report shares deliberately selected results offline. Exporting does not save the workspace, and HTML reporting is not PDF output.
What changed with Scientific Workspace in 2.5?
Save and reopen supported calculation work, search retained Results, manage variables, use the Unit Converter and export a transcript. See the historical 2.5 release notes for the scope introduced in that version.
Is SumWise Desktop free?
SumWise Desktop includes a full-featured seven-day trial through Microsoft Store. After the trial, it is a one-time $24.99 purchase with no subscription.
What happens after the seven-day trial?
A one-time purchase is required to continue calculator activity after the Store trial. That purchase and license handling are provided through Microsoft Store. Direct is a separate purchase without a trial.
Does SumWise Desktop require a subscription?
No. Microsoft Store and Direct purchases are one-time US$24.99 purchases. The full-featured seven-day trial is available through Microsoft Store only.
Does SumWise Desktop work offline?
SumWise Desktop calculations are designed to run locally on your Windows computer without depending on a browser or cloud calculation service. Microsoft Store may still manage installation and license verification.
Where do I download SumWise Desktop?
Install through the official Microsoft Store listing, or read the Direct purchase and delivery details for the separate limited unsigned download.
How does Direct delivery work?
- Contact Avery to confirm the supplied Direct version and agree delivery timing before payment. Do not assume it includes every current Store workflow.
- Review the Direct terms and existing Direct conditions and checkout. The initial download is unsigned; Windows may warn or block it. Do not disable Windows security.
- After verification of successful payment, Avery manually supplies application access and delivers your license separately and privately. Checkout completion is not instant download or activation.
A Direct license does not unlock the installed Store app. Do not assume Store trial state or workspace files transfer automatically. For help, use Direct delivery support.
What platforms are supported?
SumWise Desktop is a Windows application. Mobile and web versions of the Desktop product are not currently offered.
Is SumWise a complete CAS?
No. SumWise provides supported symbolic algebra and calculus workflows, including expansion, simplification for supported cases, polynomial factoring and solving, derivatives, and integrals. It does not claim universal general-purpose CAS coverage.
Can I graph more than one function?
Yes. SumWise can plot multiple real-valued functions, toggle curve visibility, zoom and pan, inspect curves, pin coordinates, and copy or export graph images.
Does SumWise replace an exam calculator?
SumWise covers many scientific, graphing, symbolic, calculus, and statistics workflows, but it is not an exam-certified handheld calculator.
Where should I start?
Begin with Getting Started, then use the Examples and the built-in Function Reference.
What changed in SumWise 2.4?
Version 2.4 strengthens exact, deterministic simplification for eligible homogeneous like-term sums passed directly to simplify(...). Supported signed integer and rational coefficients can be combined across two to seven physical terms, while unsupported or uncertain inputs keep their established behavior. See the 2.4 release notes for details.
What changed in SumWise 2.3?
Version 2.3 adds graph curve inspection, pinned coordinates, coordinate and graph-image copying, PNG export, visible graph controls, and Microsoft Store trial, entitlement, localized-price, and purchase support. See the 2.3 release notes for details.
